Most of my work, but all my own work ;)
A collection of my original paintings and lino prints. I’m just one guy, and website design is a long-forgotten skill, so bear with me while I flesh this out!
A quick note on lino prints: Unlike a digital or giclée reproduction, every lino print here is carved and printed by hand, making each piece an original artwork in its own right - just like a painting.
McKay Falls
Acrylic on canvas, 455 x 915mm. Feb 2026.
This was the first 'proper' painting and I used a palette knife because I was trying to break out of the sharp, almost geometric, look of some of my lino prints - I wanted to highlight the 'hand of the artist' with loose impressionistic style.
McKay Falls is on the Milford Track, which we walked in December 2022. Fun fact: My dad, Mack Holmes, was a guide back in the day when he was a medical student.
Makara #1
Acrylic on canvas, 455 x 915mm. May 2026.
This is one of my favourite paintings. Most Wellingtonians will know Makara, a coastal community fifteen minute's drive from Karori, and this is from a photo taken on a lovely day - Wellingtonians will also know that the South Coast is pretty inhospitable on a stormy day!
This will be far from the last painting I do which captures Wellington's dramatic South Coast.
Cuba Street #1
Acrylic on canvas, 915 x 315mm
This isn't a palette knife painting, I used a thing called a 'brush' (technical term).
I find there's often a subtle and beguiling attraction in seemingly mundane urban settings, and I'll definitely be adding to this series.
